Sierra de Guara and Mallos de Riglos

Star circuit 7 days, 6 nights, 5 days of walking

 

 

  The Sierra de Guara, the kingdom of the canyon in the Pyrenees will surprise you with its beauty!!! You will take old mule tracks winding through the canyons to connect the villages nestled on the "messetas" You will discover the magnificent villages of Rodellar and Alquezar (one of the most beautiful in Spain) while observing the vulture. You will travel the paths of the "reconquista" in Loarre and to end this fabulous stay you will enter the kingdom of the "Mallos de Riglos" Formidable conglomerate cathedrals

 

Program  :

 

Day 1 – Reception at your Hotel

Arrival at the end of the day at your hotel.

Welcome drink and briefing of the week

 

 

 

Day 2 – Rodellar - Otín - Mascun Canyon

Transfer to Rodellar. We leave for the tour of the Mascun massif. The route allows you to discover the mythical "  Barranco  » and its resurgence, the famous «  ventana  » stone window carved by the water as well as the other particular shapes carved in the limestone rock. We will discover one of the best preserved dolmens in the region, as well as the abandoned village of Otin

Positive altitude difference: + 650 m

Negative elevation: -650 m

 

Day 3 – Alquezar - Rio Vero

Transfer to Alquezar, perched village, endowed with a rich historical heritage in a superb natural setting, we cross the village, to descend towards the Rio Vero by the canyon located under the castle, we take the famous path of the footbridges, dominating the gorge to reach the bridge of Fuentebuenos, we then walk along old transhumance tracks, in the middle of ancient olive trees towards the small village of Asque., we then reach the bridge of Villacantal, where we go up to the Moorish fountain of Basacol. (possibility of shortening, 10 km circuit; 400m of total elevation gain)

We will then descend between the terraces, along an irrigation path towards the village of Alquezar.

Positive altitude difference: + 550 m

Negative elevation: -550 m

 

Day 4 – Salto de Bierge, Fuente de Tamara and Huevos de Morrano

Short trip to the village of Bierge. From this typical Aragonese village, we will discover the Bierge jump, this waterfall with turquoise colors, sets the tone for the rest of the hike.  ! We will then arrive at the Fountain of Tamara and at the exit of the Canyon de la Peonera, the basins carved into the limestone are magnificent.

Gentle climb to  Los Huevos de Morrano  literally, the Eggs of Morrano. Spectacular rock formations.

We end our hike in Morrano, a small Aragonese village.

 

12km  ; walking time: +/- 5 hours

Positive altitude difference: + 450 m

 

At the end of the day we leave for Plasencia del Monte, 73 Km, starting point for the second part of the stay….

 

Day 5 – Hermitage of the Virgen de la Peña - Castillo de Loarre

Short trip to the village of Anies. From this typical Aragonese village, we climb towards the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Peña. This sanctuary leaning against the middle of the cliff, of great historical and heritage value will surprise you  !, We then head towards the castle of Loarre by a path in Balcon offering very beautiful views on the plain of Huesca.

  We will visit this magnificent castle, representing one of the best specimens of military and civil architecture in Europe, we descend gently in the middle of olive and almond trees, towards the small village of Anies,

Day 6 – Mallos de Riglos

Short trip to the picturesque village of Riglos, nestled at the foot of the Mallos, its impressive rocky Monoliths, are a paradise for climbers, but also for griffon vultures which nest in the middle of the walls of more than 300 meters. We will go around the massif taking the Solana path, dominating all the Mallos, and if you feel like it, a small detour to the mirador de los Buitres.

Day 7 – End of stay

Terms and conditions

 

Level :

There are 5 days of walking without any other porterage than the business of the day. The circuit takes place on an almost entirely marked route, and always on well-marked paths.

Do not rely on the times indicated. Indeed, depending on the level(s) of group(s), we can shorten or lengthen the routes.

Walking times vary from 4 to 6 hours depending on your pace.

 

Management :

By qualified mountain guides who know the country and its history perfectly.

 

Accommodation:

6 nights In a hotel: in a double room with private bathrooms.

The selected hotels are 2 or 3* in terms of room quality. The furniture is simple but practical,

and the decoration has a local charm that is friendly and family friendly.

Food and water:

For drinks, you have the contents of your water bottle. Remember to fill it every morning before leaving. Otherwise, you can buy mineral water in your accommodations

. Do not drink the water from the canyons, it is unfit for consumption.

 

Dinners and breakfasts:

They are taken from accommodation. They are plentiful. These are most often typical Spanish meals, consisting of a starter, a main course (meat or fish + starches + cooked vegetables), and a dessert.

In Spain, drinks (wine, mineral water) are often included in the menus, this information will be mentioned on your reservation.

Lunches: A packed lunch is provided by the host in the form of a picnic. (sandwich)

Supervision by a local mountain guide

Accommodation in a double room in a comfortable 3-star hostel and hotel

Stay in half board from the evening meal of the 1st day to the breakfast of the 7th day

Wine included with the evening meal.

Picnic provided by the Hotel as an option

 

 

 

Not included :

Visit to the sanctuary of the Virgen de la Peña and the castle of Loarre; insurance, personal expenses (drinks, etc.). Also excluded is transport to get to the meeting point. In addition, supplements due to a major modification of the program are the responsibility of the customer whose prior agreement will, of course, have been requested.
